When I Grow Up...

Remember when we were little kids and the infamous question we were asked was, "What do you want to be when you grow up?" It was always a doctor, lawyer, astronaut, mommy, daddy, teacher, or rockstar. Well here is my list of "What I want to be when I grow up...":
When I grow up, I want to be an astronaut. I want to see the world from a different view. To have the ability to see life's problems and trials as such small matters in the full spectrum of life. To be careless.
When I grow up, I want to be a doctor. I want to contribute to those who are sick. Those who need healing. I want to know there is someone out there who I helped live. Live a full life. Live life to the fullest.
When I grow up, I want to be a lawyer. To be able to argue for something that is right. To take a stand on what I believe to be true. To help someone be found as an innocent. Confirm a decision.
When I grow up, I want to be a mommy. To love a child. "Raise up a child in the way he should go..." I want to buy toys. Play Santa. I want to have that love-at-first-sight feeling when my child is born. To put myself last and my children first.
When I grow up, I want to be a superhero. Batman. Fighting all the bad guys. Saving my kids from bad dreams and nightmares. Always a bigger bed to crawl into. Superman. I want to be able to fly. Going a hundred miles per hour to somewhere. Anywhere. Everywhere. WonderWoman. I want to be strong and independent. But not totally independent. I want to be looked up to. Be a role model.
When I grow up, I want to be a ballerina. I want to dance as if no one's watching. But perform like I'm in front of a million people. I want to have no worries in the world. I want to have sore feet while wearing a tutu. I want to do something I love. Life's not about the storms in your life, but learning to dance in the rain.
When I grow up, I want to be a teacher. I want to learn something new everyday. While teaching a child something new. I want to reflect positively on little children. I want to show love where love is not shown. I want to be a role model. To have discipline. To teach it. I want to be a contribution to our future. I believe the children our are future, teach them well and let them lead the way.
When I grow up, I want to be famous. I want to be an athlete. A popstar. I want to be on a stage in front of millions. I want to feel the words. Write the lyrics in my heart. I want to be rich. I want to sign my autograph. In a book. On a piece of notebook paper. On a shirt. On someone's head. I want people to not see my flaws. Or see them and not care. I want people to want to be like me. I want to be in a movie. To act like someone I'm not. And for it to be okay. I want to shine. I want to be a star.
When I grow up, I want to be me. I want to be all of these things. I want someone to hear my story. I want someone to hear my song. I want my story and song to change a life. Or two. I want to be loved for who I am. The way I am. I have a purpose. I am here for a reason. I want my reason and purpose to be fulfilled. To be done. I want to give Him glory. For changing me. For loving me. For giving me that purpose. For giving me a story. And song. It's not about me. It's all about Him.
So when you hear the old question again or if you ask it, be sure to know yourself. "What do you want to be when you grow up?"
